52 Week Challenge - Week 16 - Dotticure

When I saw Dotticure on the list of challenges, I wondered why there would be Polka Dot and Dotticure. Aren't they both the same thing? Nevertheless, I wanted to do this "dotticure" different than my polka dot mani so I went for a clearish base with colors. My boyfriend told me this was the best design I've done so far, so that makes this my favorite mani.
For this dotticure, I used a base color of Sinful Colors Glass Pink. Then I used my dotting tool (an actual dotting tool this time, YAY!) and used OPI Pink Friday, China Glaze Tinsel and LA Colors Art Deco White for the dots. In the last two pictures I used NYC Grand Central Station for my top coat.

Be sure to check out the other bloggers who did a dotticure this week. If your name needs to be added to this list just send me an email to let me know.

Spring Challenge - April Showers Bring May Flowers (1)

There are a few other challenges that I have been wanting to try. I don't always have the latest collections and I don't receive press information about new releases so I'm often stuck on what to post. That is why I like doing challenges because know I have something to do. Plus, I'm finding other great bloggers and building my nail art skills.

The next challenge I am participating in was created by Polished Prisms and it's great because we can go at our own pace. So here's my first post for this challenge: Spring Pastels.

The polishes I used for my Spring Pastels are (thumb) OPI Lucky Lucky Lavender, Sinful Colors Luminary, Olympia, Unicorn and Essie Lilacism.

So far here is a list of bloggers participating in this challenge:
Hannah from Polished Prisms
Charlotte from Charlotte's Nails
Karine from Karinea0a
Heidi from DIY Polish & More!
Ashley from One Nail to Another
Amanda from Mandy's Polish
Sue from Creative Nail Design by Sue
Tess from Football and Fingernails
Victoria from Manicurator
Jess from Nearly Natural Nails

52 Week Challenge - Week 14 - Striped Mani

The 14th week of the 52 week challenge is a striped mani. I've always liked how striped manis look on other nail bloggers but on me I was timid to try it because my lines wouldn't be straight and I don't have the proper tools. One reason I am loving this challenge is because it is pushing me to do nail designs that I probably wouldn't ever do.

For today's challenge, I used Revlon Coconut Crush as my base color (with the exception of my ring finger which I did opposite) and Sinful Colors Luminary. To do the stripes, I used a paint brush with a thin tip. What do other nail bloggers use for their stripes?

I really hope I'm not leaving anyone out in the list below. I know how that feels to be left out, so if your name is missing from the list please let me know in the comments or by email. Be sure to check out the other striped manicures for this week's challenge.

Twinsie Tuesday: Hyped up/disappointed Polish

Sorry for my absence these past few days. I haven't painted my nails since Friday night. That doesn't seem that long for most but for me that seems like awhile. I've been under the weather for a few days and on top of that, welcoming new furry member(s) to the family.  But today is Tuesday, so that means another edition of Twinsie Tuesday. This week's theme or challenge is a hyped up polish you were disappointed by.
There aren't many polishes that I buy that I end up disappointed by and if I am disappointed, I find a way to make them work for me. Also, when I purchase hyped up polishes, I try to do my research before I buy it to avoid disappointment. So when it came to picking out a polish for this week's challenge, I wasn't sure what to go with. I decided on China Glaze Twinkle Lights from the 2011 Holiday Collection, Let It Snow. Don't get me wrong, this is a pretty polish but I was expecting to be as happy as I was when I finally got my hands on Party Hearty. I like the colors of this glitter but I wish they were different sizes.

Check out the other ladies of Twinsie Tuesday to see what hyped up polish they were disappointed by.

Twinsie Tuesday: Discontinued Polish

This week's theme is Discontinued polish. I haven't really gone out of my way to get my hands on a discontinued polish, so at first I wasn't sure what polish I was going to use for this week's theme. I probably would have just gone with China Glaze Party Hearty since I know that came out for Christmas 2010 collection. After doing some research (note typing in random names of polish that I owned) I discovered from Rebecca likes nails that I owned a discontinued polish, enter Sally Hansen Lime Lights (shown on my center fingers). So I sat it aside anxiously awaiting to post about it.

Then on a trip to Dollar Tree I came across Maybelline Express Finish Blue Water. I picked it up because it looked cool and I had nothing like it. When I got home, I searched Google and discovered via ebay that this polish was apparently discontinued as well. Notice that it is going for $12.99 on ebay and I got it for $1.06 at Dollar Tree. I also picked up Violet Water and plan to layer it over a flakie for an attempt at NFU 51 inspired mani.

I layered both of these discontinued polishes over NYC Little Italy because alone they are both very sheer.

Twinsie Tuesday: Sinful Colors Olympia

Here's my third edition of Twinsie Tuesday! This week's theme was to feature a green polish in honor of St. Patrick's Day! Even though I've been posting a lot of NOTDs with green polish, I knew I wanted to share this beautiful soft green creme today. This is Sinful Colors Olympia, it's from the new collection, Castaway. Olympia is a pastel green that is opaque and super shiny in two coats. Bonus, I found out from Madeline it was a dupe for Essie's Navigate Her.
Brand: Sinful Colors
Line: Castaway
Color Name/Number: Olympia/1112
Finish: Creme
Number of Coats: 2
Top Coat: no

I can't wait to see what the other Twinsie Tuesdays are sharing for their green polish. You should check them out too!

TAG!! I'm it!!!

The little things in (blogger) life make me smile so when I was tagged by Jenna, I was one happy girl. Especially since I don't get tagged often. So here goes...

- You must post these rules.
- Each person must post 11 things about themselves on their blog.
- Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
- You have to choose 11 people to tag and link them on the post.
- Go to their page and tell them you have linked him or her.
- No tag backs.
- No stuff in the tagging section about 'you are tagged if you are reading this'. You legitimately have to tag 11 people.

Jenna traced this back a few blogs, and the 11 facts seemed to have disappeared. Even though it's a little tough to come up with 11 random things, I wanted to stick to the rules and keep it going:

11 things about me

1. I'm a born and raised Florida girl but haven't spent a lot of time at the beach.
2. When I was little, I used to pretend I was an Olympic gymnast even though all I could do was a cartwheel and round-off.
3. My first year of dancing was my freshman year of high school. I fell in love with it and wish I could have did it my whole life. Sadly (and obviously) I don't dance anymore.
4. My first job was at Dunkin Donuts. I worked there for 3 years and so far that's the longest job I've ever held.
5. My favorite job I have ever had was working at a Disney resort and I worked there for 2 1/2 years. The only reason I left that job was because I moved out of state.
6. When I was younger one of my favorite things to do was play school. I taught my dolls and stuffed animals dreaming of being a teacher one day. Now I have an Associates degree in Early Childhood Development so I'm on my way to becoming a teacher.
7. I'm Disney obsessed. Just about anything Disney can instantly lift my mood.
8. I hope one day to be a mother but I have this fear that it will never happen for me.
9. Sometimes I can be very sensitive and insecure which leads to me crying over the small stuff.
10. When I was about 9 or 10, I fell head first into a swamp at Gatorland.
11. I'm a foodieaholic, I wish I had the metabolism of an active teenager so I could eat whatever I wanted with no worries.

Jenna's questions for me to answer.
  1. What is your favorite candy?
This actually changes often but I would have to say is any chocolate/peanut butter combination.
  2. Which would you rather do without makeup or nail polish?
Hmm, that's a tough question because I like both so much. I have no problem leaving the house without makeup (or nail polish for that matter) on but if I had to choose, I'd rather do without nail polish because nails aren't usually what people are looking at when you talk face to face. Does that make sense?

  3. What music genre is your most tuned in?
My music taste has not changed from when I was a teen. Lame I know but I still prefer to listen to *NSYNC and Britney, etc from my teen days. I also listen to R&B and hip-hop on the regular.
  4. What is your favorite season?
My favorite season is Autumn because the weather is usually nice, not too hot and not too cold.
  5. Would you rather shop online or in a store?
To be honest, at this point I prefer neither because I miss when I could just go to the store pick up just about anything out and not worry about if it was too tight. I guess if I got down to a size I was comfortable with, I'd be happy shopping again.  So to avoid disappointment, I think I'd rather shop online.

  6. What is you favorite nail color/finish?
My favorite nail color is pink and my favorite finish is slight shimmer.
  7. Define Beauty.
I gave this question a lot of thought but in the end I would define beauty as being satisfied with what makes you who you are, accepting you for you and not comparing yourself to others.

  8. What makes you the happiest?
My boyfriend and Disney make me happiest.
  9. What is your favorite beauty brand/product?
My favorite beauty brand is Wet n Wild because their products are affordable. I've been using WnW products for a long time and they are my go to brand. My favorite beauty product is a tie between nail polish and eyeshadow.

  10. What is the most important trait you look for in a friend?
The most important trait I look for in a friend is honesty and sense of humor. I don't want a friend who is going to stab me in my back and I want to be able to laugh with them.
  11. What is your biggest pet peeve?
I have a few big pet peeves...but I think my biggest pet peeve is when someone says they will do something and they don't do it or making plans and backing out at the last minute.
My questions
1. If you could go back in time and change one thing, what would it be?
2. Do you prefer watching scary movies during the day or at night or not at all?
3. Would you rather win $5000 jackpot or $5000 shopping spree at your favorite store?
4. When something is bothering you and someone asks you what's wrong, is it easy for you to share or would you rather keep it to yourself?
5. Do you find it easy to talk about your online life with real life friends?
6. If you could spend 24 hours in any theme park, which would it be?
7. Bungee jumping or sky diving?
8. Do you pick out/put on your pants or shirt first?
9. High end jewelry or fun accessories?
10. What is your favorite and least favorite household chore?
11. Do you know how to change a flat tire?

I tag...

I know some of the ladies I tagged don't blog often, or may not even want to do this tag but I figured it would be fun to pass it along.

Girly-Girl Challenge - Day 2

I'm back with day 2 of the Girly-Girl challenge. I probably won't post as close next week but then again, I might. Regardless, I like doing these challenges because I know I have content to post. The theme for day 2 is Gimme that BLING! Diamonds are a girl's best friend, so put some sparkle on those nails!

I thought long and hard about what nail polish I had that made made me think "bling bling". I ended up going with a beauty from Wet n Wild Coloricon's Ice Ice Baby collection. To make it even better, the polish has a fitting name, Diamonds in the Rough. This is 2 coats of Diamonds in the Rough.

On my accent nails, I used Revlon Siren (picked up yesterday on sale from CVS with another Revlon polish and the WnW shadows I posted about, courtesy of my boyfriend). Siren was opaque in 1 coat but I did 2 for good measure.
For the nail art, I attempted to do a blingy necklace. For the necklace I used Milani HD and for the charm I used Pure Ice 537CP (a silver glitter) and topped that with the silver holo glitter from Claire's Precious Metals. I also added a layer of the Claire's silver holo glitter over my middle finger for a more blingy effect.

So what do you think of my bling?

Girly-Girl Challenge - Day 1

I decided to participate in yet another nail challenge. This one was created by Lindsey of Neverland Nail Blog. This challenge is all about being a girly-girl and since I'm a total girly-girl, why not? Lindsey designed this challenge to last one month with two challenges per week. Lindsey will be posting on Tuesdays and Thursdays but we can post on whatever day works for us. I think I might be posting on Thursdays and Fridays, but Thursdays for sure. The first theme of this challenge is Think PINK! "Wear your favorite pink polish and nail art" (oops, I forgot the nail art)

Now if I would have followed the "rules" for this week's Pink Wednesday, I could have combined the two but I was excited to use Zeus with the pink shimmer soooo...anyways, here's my nails for day 1 of the Girly-Girl Challenge.

I used Revlon Posh Pink, Spoiled Jewelry Heist and WnW It's all in the Cut.

edited to add my nail art

Laine Blogger Award

I was so honored when Amanda from Amandalandish tagged me with this award. Thank you so much!

There's not a long list of questions with this award just 3 simple rules.

1. Leave a link back to the person who gave it to you
2. Blog about your award
3. Give this award to 5 other bloggers and let them know they are tagged.

Since the lovely ladies of Twinsie Tuesday have already been awarded, I want to reach out to some other bloggers they may not have been tagged yet. (I think this tag is still fairly new. And from my research it looks like Kelly from Polish Enthusiast created this award. Amanda was curious about the origin of this award.) Now I tag...

Brittany
yes I cheated and tagged 6 people...:)

52 Week Challenge - Week 9 - Vintage Mani

Let me start off by saying that I did not follow the "rules" for this week's challenge. Even with the power of Google being at my fingertips, I did not think that there was an actual vintage manicure trend to follow. That being said, I present my "vintage" mani...

I seriously racked my brain all week trying to come up with an idea that was vintage that I could convey on my nails. So when I think vintage, I think something old, maybe could be found at a thrift store or something handed down. Somehow, the original Mickey Mouse Club came to mind and that's what I went with.

After doing a little bit of research, I found out that the original Mickey Mouse Club debuted on October 3, 1955. So 1955 is on my thumb and 3 Mickey heads are on my pinky. On my index finger, I wrote my name because the original mouseketeers had their names on the front of their shirts. On my middle finger, is an "inspired" Mickey Mouse Club logo. And on my ring finger, is the ever famous Mickey ears hat. The base color didn't turn out how I wanted but that's okay.

While this isn't the expected "vintage" mani, I really liked how it turned out. Maybe later this week I'll take a second shot at the actual vintage mani.

Check out some of the other bloggers for real vintage manis for this week's challenge!

Mermaid-like Nails

When I finish a manicure, I usually show Loro or his mom first. Last night, I showed my "mother-in-law" my current nails, she said "oh it kinda looks like a mermaid". If you follow me on twitter, you saw my sneak peek and spelling flub (sneak "peak" - lol, I guess I was thinking in rhymes). If not, first, let's take a look at my base color.

For my base color, I used China Glaze Shower Together. This color is a pretty cerulean blue. I applied it over white and a base coat to try to avoid smurf nails when I take it off. I think because the white I used was streaky, it made the application of ST seem streaky but it smooths out at the end.
Brand: China Glaze
Line: Ecollection 2008 (source)
Color Name: Shower Together
Finish: Cream
Number of Coats: 2
Top Coat: no
Then this is where this manicure gets fun! Next I added Sinful Colors Green Ocean. (Another polish I picked up on Thursday when I wasn't supposed to be buying polish. I just couldn't pass this one up!) From what I can see, this polish is similar to Zoya Opal. I applied it over blue for now because I know, I'll be going crazy with the greens next month. On my accent nail, I used 2 coats of Spoiled Jewelry Heist over Green Ocean.

Oh! And guess what?! My nails are finally long enough to wrap my tips. I don't remember where I first heard of "wrapping tips" but All Lacquered Up has a great post explaining it. I wanted to try this for the longest time (well since the start of my active blogging) but my nails never stayed long enough and if I tried to wrap, I'd just end up painting my fingertips. Now my nails are of decent length...
