Guest Appearance - my sister (OPI Piroutte My Whistle)

Since I live about 1,200 miles away from my sister, I rarely get the chance to do her nails. And even if I did live closer to her, I doubt she would let me paint her nails often since she's iffy about color on her nails. I warned her before I even got on the plane that I would be doing her nails for graduation. I didn't want anything too plain. I decided to take my mini bottle of OPI Piroutte My Whistle. I used 2 coats of PMW and 1 coat of Wet n Wild Wild Shine (clear top coat). I ended up leaving both of those with her since I have the full size of PMW and I have plenty of top coats.

Now I will say it's a little more difficult taking pictures of nails other than my own. At least it is for me. I think part of that is due to the fact that I didn't have my camera I normally take my nail pics with.

I also convinced her to let me do her eye makeup. It was something soft and not really noticeable. I used the soft colors from my NYC Custom Compact for Brown Eyes Union Square. Her mascara and eye liner was from LA Colors (I think).

Mixing Glitter with Crackle

When I took off OPI Super Bass Shatter, I was anxious to try another crackle. I went for the Pure Ice Crackle: Strike a Pose. My dad sent this to me for Christmas. I was surprised that he listened. Strike a Pose came with a silver glitter (I'll swatch later). But first let's take a look at what I used as a base.

I pulled out an untried, NYC Cashmere Creme. It's a sheer powder blue color and despite being called a creme, it has shimmer. Even though Cashmere Creme is sheer in color, the polish is not too thin. It applies a little streaky but evens out with additional coats.

Brand: New York Color
Line: Long Wearing Nail Enamel
Color Name/Number: Cashmere Creme/124
Finish: Frost/Shimmer
Number of Coats: 2 (possibly 3)
Top Coat: no

Now comes the fun part! I wanted to use Save Me and a crackle but didn't want to go crazy again so I did half and half. Save Me is just as amazing and attention capturing as it was before. I loved it over a light blue.
Let me tell you, Strike a Pose is a beautiful metallic cerulean blue. In some lights, it leans a little green. Of course, I couldn't capture that on camera. I was so excited with how it looked, I sent a text to my dad telling him he picked out a great polish. Due to previous experience with a Pure Ice Crackle, I was worried that it wouldn't crackle well but I was not let down. If you aren't over the crackle phase I would recommend picking up a Pure Ice Crackle because the price isn't that bad.

fizzled interview NOTD and EOTD

This past Wednesday I was supposed to have an interview. I was super stressed about it because I'm not trying to just get any old retail job but a job in my career field, early childhood education. The night before I started having anxiety about the whole thing and that morning was awful. To make matters worse, when I went to leave for the interview our vehicle would not start. So the interview was a fail and I didn't even get a chance to go. Not wanting my boring interview NOTD and EOTD go to waste, I decided to post pics.

On my nails I wore NYC Bryant Park. This color is a nice neutral color for an interview. When I choose colors appropriate for interview, I think would this fit into the "Disney Look". Since Disney was so picky and "professional" any nail color that might be allowed there, it would be appropriate for an interview.

Bryant Park is a bronzy beige color with slight shimmer. It applied a little streaky. If it wasn't shimmery this would be a good mannequin hands for me.

Brand: New York Color
Line: In a New York Color Minute
Color Name/Number: Bryant Park/214B
Number of Coats: 2
Top Coat: No
no flash, under desk lamp

On my eyes, I'm wearing the "all over lid" color from NYC Union Square palette. In my crease I used a dark brown from my Sedona Lace warm palette. I used the primer from the Union Square palette to prime my lids but I still had creasing. Let it be said these pictures were taken after my tears of frustration. On my lips, I'm wearing Revlon Lip butter in Creme brulee. The eyeliner I used was a ELF liquid eyeliner in brown, not digging it that much.

Franken: Jellies

SH Double Duty Base Coat and 3 thin layers of franken jellies
Apparently I've developed a thing for jelly polish. Reason being, they are awesome for "sandwiching" glitters. To my surprise, I do not have many jellies in my collection. The best solution was to create my own. In the above picture are my swatches of the franken jellies before adding coats of glitter.

The above picture is midway through layering.

The formula for this "sandwich"
Sally Hansen Double Duty Base coat
3 thin layers of franken jelly
1 layer of NYC Starry Silver Glitter
1 layer of jelly
repeat once
apply glitter just to tips (like a gradient effect)
thick coat of jelly
Out the Door - Northern Lights Hologram top coat "silver" (not shaken)

Pink Wednesday 7

This week I am wearing NYC Classic Coral Creme. However, this finish is anything but a creme, I would say it's more of a shimmer or glass flecked. Unless I've been wrong about the color coral all these years, this is obviously not a "coral". Nevertheless, it is a gorgeous pink and cost less than a dollar (before tax). I used 2 coats and no top coat.

Have a good pink Wednesday!!!

NOTD: WnW Disturbia and "Vampy/fall" colors

DISCLAIMER! I apologize for not "cleaning up" before these pictures.

Wet n Wild MegaLast Disturbia is a gorgeous plummy purple with fine shimmers. It has a different look in different lighting. The above picture was taken with flash and I used 3 coats. I have not worn it outside in sunlight yet so I can't tell you if the shimmers pick up in the sunlight. In artificial lighting, it has a deep vampy purple look. Because of this, I decided to compare it to my other vampy colors.
On my other hand I swiped Disturbia, Sinful Colors Rich in Heart (a deep burgundy with red shimmer) and NYC Plaza Plumberry (a wine-plum color). All three colors are so dark, they almost look black in certain lights. Here I was complaining about not having fall colors, but these are perfect for fall. The above picture and picture below were taking without flash.

with flash.
(again pardon the messiness that I did not clean up)

Do you own any dark vampy colors for fall? I'm ready to add some dark greens and khaki greens and of course browns or golds to my collection. What are you wearing for fall?

Collective Haul for month of September

Woo! As you can see September was a good nail polish shopping month for me. Everything was purchased by my boyfriend (thanks boo!) or myself.

In a previous post I mentioned that Walgreens was having a .99 promo on all originally priced $1.99 products. I definitely took advantage of this promotion. The only product I got that was not nail polish was Wet N Wild Brulee eyeshadow. The polishes I got were (in no particular order): Undercover, Bite the Bullet, Private Viewing, Haze of Love, Disturbia, Caught Red Handed, FuchsiaRama and Teal of Fortune (not pictured above) and Blackmail.
One week of September Sinful Colors also had a .99 deal on their polish. From left to right: Nirvana, Secret Admirer (I had this color before, but left it at my dad's house in Florida and my sister wanted it for herself.) Envy, Dancing Nails, and Let me Go.
From Walmart I picked up Pure Ice Oh baby, NYC Plaza Plumberry and NYC Charming Rose Creme. And the one I was most excited about was from Target, I got Revlon Facets of Fuchsia.

Pink Wednesdays: NYC Charming Rose Creme

This is the Pink Wednesday pic I uploaded to my twitter, I have some on my camera but I'm not working from my laptop anymore, so I'm still adapting to the "new" desktop. (I left my cord for my camera in Florida.)

Well this creme is definitely not a creme, it's more of a frost but it's still pretty. What pink isn't pretty? This is 2 coats and there is brushstrokes and somewhat of a VNL.
