365 Days of Color: Holiday Collection

On Small Business Saturday, I made my second indie polish purchase but first impulse indie purchase. ;) I ordered from 365 Days of Color and I got the holiday set of minis. I want to give each polish the proper love, so I swatched 2 coats on a nail wheel.
The first polish I decided to wear was Santa Baby. From first look, this is my favorite of the three because Santa Baby is a red jelly with random sizes of white glitter and small red glitter. And guess what?! These polishes are scented, this one smells like candy canes. The scent is not over powering but every now and then I'll get a whiff of mint.

Brand: 365 Days of Color
Collection: Holiday Collection
Color Name: Santa Baby
Finish: Jelly with glitter
Number of Coats: 3
Top Coat: yes

I plan to have Trimming the Tree and Gimme Some Bubbly up this weekend.

Sinful Colors Georgio

I've had this polish since summer but saved it for Fall. It's a deep dark pretty color. I would describe Georgio as a vampy oxblood red with brown undertones. This is two coats and although it's a pretty color, it's not so pretty to clean up. That's my biggest complaint about this polish.

Pink Wednesday - Triple Layering

Tuesday morning on my drive to work, I was thinking about what polish I was going to wear for Pink Wednesday. I knew that I wanted to use Revlon Popular and Kleancolor Chunky Holo Fuchsia. But my base color that was undecided. Then when I got home from work after watching DWTS All-Stars finale(I'm happy with the results!)I was too lazy to take off my base color. So I plopped on Popular over that and topped it with Chunky Holo Fuchsia. The result is pretty nice if I do say so myself.
Popular over my base color - kinda blah but I wasn't stopping there. To find out what the base color is check back on Thursday ;) Now here's the final outcome.

Isn't that something?! I like how the large glitters from Popular is peeking through CHF.

Twinsie Tuesday: Oldest Polish

It's the last Twinsie Tuesday of November! Only 4 more Tuesdays left of this year! Today's theme is oldest polish.

My oldest polish is a little boring since it's just clear. My oldest polish is Sally Hansen Nail Protex. Boy if this polish could talk would it have stories to tell. It has moved almost as many times as I have. Then in June, I bought this polish back home with me from my dad's house. I started using this back in 2007 or 2008. A former co-worker of mine told me about this so I went out and picked it up. At that time, I wasn't wearing bright colors since my job had strict dress code rules but clear polish was okay and it really did strengthen my nails.
But I figured I'd share a polish that's a tad more interesting...

This is Nina Passion Wine. This is the second oldest polish that I bought. I got it in 2008 from a 99 cent store that is no longer open. Only thing is I passed this polish on to my "MIL" in early 2010 when I narrowed down my collection. She kindly let me use this polish to do this post today. Passion Wine is a gorgeous pink with slight shimmer. I needed 3 coats to be opaque.

Bonus polish! This is my oldest and first purchased China Glaze, For Audrey. I had a bit of a panic attack when I thought she went missing. I searched all over for her but she was nowhere to be found. After I had a moment to calm down, I went back and looked; I found her in spot but she had a disguise on. I picked her up and told her never to do that again. ;)
I'm sure my Twinsies will have some awesome old polishes! I can't wait to see them all :)

Gold Layering

After Thanksgiving dinner, I painted one of my 10 year old niece's nails (no picture). I did part of this combo and loved the look of it so I had to try it on myself. The base color is Sally Hansen Terracotta. The combo I used was Sinful Colors All About You and Milani Gold. This is a great layering of gold polishes. It looked awesome on niece's bare nails but for me I had to have a base color. Any base color would look pretty snazzy with this combo.

Makeup Monday! - Glitter!

It's time for another Makeup Monday! This month's theme is glitter! I don't use color or glitter much on my eyes these days, so I wanted to do something fun!

I must say, I was rather disappointed with the NYX Glitter Cream Palette I used. It's somewhat difficult to work with although that might just be user error. Luckily I had Fantasy Makers Confetti, this was a "life saver".
Here are the shadows I used: from the WnW Pedal Pusher palette,  the two crease colors for my crease and the light highlight color under my brows.

And from the WnW Fauna trio, the eyelid color for my lid.
Before adding the Fantasy Makers Confetti, I used the two purples but as I said, it was tricky to work with.

52 Week Challenge - Week 48 - Feather Mani

Here's a feather mani without actual feathers. I didn't find too many when I searched Google for a how-to. What I did find was a page with screenshots of feathers on the Draw Something app. My color scheme is based off of peacocks but I didn't want to add the spots for fear I would destroy my "art".

I do want to try the feather mani with feathers but that will be at another time.

China Glaze Red Satin

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and Black Friday. I really enjoyed my days off but now it's back to the regular schedule. This is China Glaze Red Satin from the Holiday Joy collection. China Glaze describes it as a "silky blue-based red creme". That's the exact reason I wanted it, because it is a blue-based red. Although I think it is better defined as a crelly. I needed 3 coats to not have a VNL.

Brand: China Glaze
Collection: Holiday Joy
Color Name/Number: Red Satin
Finish: creme (crelly)
Number of Coats: 3
Top Coat: (only in last two pictures)

Thanksgiving Mani - 2012

Happy Thanksgiving!!! Today was a busy busy day. I didn't have time to do my nails last night or earlier in the morning. Luckily I was able to get them painted in a nice festive color. This is 2 coats of Spoiled Cougar Attack. I like that this polish dries fast so I was able to swipe it on and finish what I needed to do.

I'm thankful for my boyfriend and his family as well as the readers of my blog. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving or Thursday (for those that don't celebrate the holiday). What are you thankful for? What was your favorite dish today?

Sinful Colors Nova

I picked this polish maybe 3 weeks ago on my way to work. I honestly don't know why I waited this long to wear this. This is Sinful Colors Nova, not to be confused with Super Nova from the metallic collection released earlier this Fall. The colors aren't even close but when searching Google for swatches of Nova, Super Nova popped up.

I posted a quick pic on Instagram Monday night after I finished painting my nails. That didn't do this polish justice and this one is a little better...but in person this polish is just WOW. Nova is a deep blue (almost black) crelly base with green and gold shimmer. It's opaque in 2 coats. It dries super smooth and shiny.

Not the average Pink Wednesday

This week's Pink Wednesday is WnW How I Met Your Magenta with green eggs and ham.
Last week I was reading "Green Eggs and Ham" to one of the kiddos I work with and thinking out loud I said "that would be interesting to do on my nails". Apparently he overheard me, so the next day I worked with him he asked "Where are your green eggs and ham?" So since Wednesday is my last work day this week, I figured why not do green eggs and ham? I hope he gets a kick out of it.

Twinsie Tuesday: Thanksgiving Inspired Mani

It's Tuesday again! And this is my 500th post! This week the Twinsies are sharing Thanksgiving Inspired manicures. For my inspiration, I wanted to do a turkey. I used Polish and Pearls and My Nail Graffiti as my guides to do my turkey(s). Here's how it turned out.
Once again I realized I don't have a good dark brown polish. It took a lot of mixing to get a good brown for my turkey. I think I just have to break down and buy brown polish. After all, it seems like a must have for my nail art.
I won't be wearing this exact design on Thanksgiving but I may do the turkey on my ring finger again. I'm excited to see what the Twinsies did for their Thanksgiving inspired manicures!

China Glaze Winter Holly

I went back and forth on whether or not I wanted to add this green to my collection. It ended up coming in a set so that cleared it up. This is China Glaze Winter Holly from the Holiday Joy collection. The press release described this as a "gold-flecked dazzling green glitter". It applies nicely but dries with a gritty matte finish (as shown in my pictures). After thinking that China Glaze couldn't top Glittering Garland from last year's collection, I was surprised that I liked Winter Holly a lot.

52 Week Challenge - Week 47 - Thanksgiving Mani

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do for today's Thanksgiving mani being that it's not actually Thursday yet. I decided to ease into Thanksgiving week with some nice fall colored dots. On my accent nail, I used a glitter I picked up at Dollar Tree only because it had orange glitters in it.

China Glaze Merry Berry and Glitter All the Way

So I was able to get to Sally's and pick up a few polishes. This is actually a rare occurrence for me because usually I buy my China Glaze polishes online. I was a bit disappointed they didn't have the Cirque de Soleil collection yet but that's to be expected. I did however pick up a few polishes from the Holiday Joy collection. Here's the first two I will be sharing.

I'm wearing 2 coats of  Merry Berry with 1 coat of Glitter all the Way as my accent. Merry Berry is of course a berry red creme. In the bottle it seems a bit lighter than Velvet Bow from last year's collection. Glitter all the Way is an exciting multi-color glitter I couldn't resist with red, green, gold and purple glitters.
