Girly-Girl Challenge Day 7

Day 7 of the Girly-Girl Challenge is Sugar, Spice and Everything Nice: "That's what little girls are made of. Show off your sweet (or spicy) inspired nails". When I read Sugar, spice and everything nice, I can't help but think of PowerPuff Girls, which is how I chose my color theme for this manicure. I used 3 coats of each polish, Milani Digital, Milani Hi-Tech, and WnW Blue Wants to be a Millionaire. On my ring finger and thumb, I topped the colors with China Glaze Snow Globe. I then used NYC Little Italy for my "sugar drops" and the candy pieces.

I can't believe this challenge is almost over. Check out the other ladies participating in this challenge.

52 Week Challenge - Week 13 - Ruffian Mani (pink Wednesday)

I apologize for my 52 week challenge post being late this week. I came down with some type of cold at the end of last week. Then on Sunday, Loro and I went to pick up our new puppy, Toro. Needless to say, I didn't feel like painting my nails all weekend and didn't do so until Monday night for Twinsie Tuesday.

Today's post is somewhat of a 2 in 1, 52 week challenge and Pink Wednesday. My bottom layer of my ruffian is Wet n Wild Fuschiarama. Then on top I used my Black Night franken. I like how my ruffian turned out and how they look on others. I hope to do more in the future and they end up looking better.

Be sure to check out the other ruffian manicures from the other bloggers participating in this challenge and if your name is missing from this list feel free to let me know.

Twinsie Tuesday: Hyped up/disappointed Polish

Sorry for my absence these past few days. I haven't painted my nails since Friday night. That doesn't seem that long for most but for me that seems like awhile. I've been under the weather for a few days and on top of that, welcoming new furry member(s) to the family.  But today is Tuesday, so that means another edition of Twinsie Tuesday. This week's theme or challenge is a hyped up polish you were disappointed by.
There aren't many polishes that I buy that I end up disappointed by and if I am disappointed, I find a way to make them work for me. Also, when I purchase hyped up polishes, I try to do my research before I buy it to avoid disappointment. So when it came to picking out a polish for this week's challenge, I wasn't sure what to go with. I decided on China Glaze Twinkle Lights from the 2011 Holiday Collection, Let It Snow. Don't get me wrong, this is a pretty polish but I was expecting to be as happy as I was when I finally got my hands on Party Hearty. I like the colors of this glitter but I wish they were different sizes.

Check out the other ladies of Twinsie Tuesday to see what hyped up polish they were disappointed by.

Girly-Girl Challenge 6

The 6th day of the Girly-Girl challenge is supposed to be a manicure inspired by someone who inspires me. I chose my twitter friends as my inspiration because in a way, they all inspire me. These are the friends I chat with daily. not everyone gets that online friendships can turn into real friendships but they really can. So to all my twitter friends I chat with daily, this mani is for you.

Girly-Girl Challenge - day 5

Day 5 of the Girly-Girl challenge is Gotta Love Chick Flicks: "We just can't resist, wear a mani inspired by your favorite chick flick". Now the girly-girl that I am, I love just about every chick flick. I chose 13 going on 30.

Pink Wednesday - March 21

Last night I painted my nails really late. Normally, I paint my nails late at night anyways but this time I was really tired. I could've waited til after work to paint my nails for Pink Wednesday but that sort of defeats the purpose of Pink Wednesday right? I said all of that to say this...because I was tired and rushed, I think that's why I am not satisfied with today's NOTD.

On my nails, I am wearing China Glaze Full Spectrum from the Prismatic Collection. I saw swatches of this on Scrangie's blog and knew that if I couldn't get all the colors from the collection I had to get this one. Well on my nails, I wasn't as thrilled as I thought I would be. I don't see the pink shift and that makes me sad. It could be because I rushed and only did 2 coats. Of course, I'll be trying it out again later. When I did my skittle nails with these polishes, I was amazed how the light catches each polish, so I think my disappointment with today's NOTD is my fault.

Twinsie Tuesday: Discontinued Polish

This week's theme is Discontinued polish. I haven't really gone out of my way to get my hands on a discontinued polish, so at first I wasn't sure what polish I was going to use for this week's theme. I probably would have just gone with China Glaze Party Hearty since I know that came out for Christmas 2010 collection. After doing some research (note typing in random names of polish that I owned) I discovered from Rebecca likes nails that I owned a discontinued polish, enter Sally Hansen Lime Lights (shown on my center fingers). So I sat it aside anxiously awaiting to post about it.

Then on a trip to Dollar Tree I came across Maybelline Express Finish Blue Water. I picked it up because it looked cool and I had nothing like it. When I got home, I searched Google and discovered via ebay that this polish was apparently discontinued as well. Notice that it is going for $12.99 on ebay and I got it for $1.06 at Dollar Tree. I also picked up Violet Water and plan to layer it over a flakie for an attempt at NFU 51 inspired mani.

I layered both of these discontinued polishes over NYC Little Italy because alone they are both very sheer.

China Glaze: Prism and Revlon: Provence

Yes, both of these polishes have been featured on my blog already, although Prism was only on one nail.  But I just can't help it, I was so excited to get the entire Prismatic collection while it was still new. So like I said in my  previous post, I will be featuring my Prismatic polishes in full NOTD instead of just skittles. I hope no one minds.

So as the title states, I am sharing China Glaze Prism and Revlon Provence. Prism is a purple holographic that leans pink (and yellow now that I'm looking at it) and has rainbow glitters throughout. As with all the polishes in the collection, it is a true beauty. When I showed my "MIL" my skittle nails yesterday, she said her favorite of the bunch was this one. Provence is a springy lilac creme. It goes on so smoothly. I don't know if it's because my nails are shorter again but once coat was pretty opaque but I went with two as always.

Brand: China Glaze

Truvía® natural sweetener Product Review - Influenster Love Vox Box

During the first week of March (March 5 to be exact), I was excited to receive my first Influenster Vox Box! I grabbed my camera and filmed my opening of my Vox Box (with the help of my cameraman, my boyfriend :)) In the upcoming days, I will be posting reviews of the products I have used so far. Which at this point is everything but the Kiss Nail Dress.

Today's review is on Truvia. On the card included in the Love Vox Box, Influenster wrote "Truvia natural sweetener is refreshingly uncomplicated, made from the best tasting part of the Stevia plant. Sprinkle this no-calorie sweetener on your grapefruit. Spoon it in your coffee. It won't end up on your conscience or your thighs!"

I tried Truvia in my Stash Tea and my coffee. I am a girl who loves extra sweet coffee. I was pleasantly surprised that I used two packets in my coffee and I did not have to reach for more. Truvia does not leave an awful aftertaste like some of the other sweeteners on the market (and I have used them all). I had my boyfriend, who will normally only drink sugar and avoid all sweeteners, taste my coffee with the Truvia in it and he said it tastes real.

Although I always resort back to sugar, I plan to use Truvia again. Especially since my "father-in-law" is diabetic, I'm sure we will be purchase Truvia on our own. I will also let my dad, who uses Splenda and Equal, know about Truvia and tell him he should make the switch.

Disclaimer: I received these products for free to test out through the Influenster VoxBox Program. All opinions are my own. I have not been paid by any of the companies mentioned in this blog post.

52 Week Challenge - Week 12 - Skittles Mani

This is one of the challenges that I have been looking forward to for the simple fact that I can showcase more than one nail polish at a time. Skittle manicures are always a lot of fun to do and look at. I've been wondering how I was going to do this challenge and then yesterday my order from head2toebeauty came and I jumped around and decided that's what I would use. (And for the record, this was a much better experience than the last e-tailer I ordered from when I got most of the ChG Let it Snow collection, so I WILL be ordering from head2toe again). Today I have 5 of the 6 China Glaze Prismatic Collection (I'm saving Full Spectrum for Pink Wednesday). "Bursting with color and dimension, China Glaze Prismatic combines glitter and holographic particles for the ultimate eye-catching 3-dimesnsional manicure" (head2toebeauty). Let me tell you, these polishes shine!!

I decided to document building up the opacity of the polish. The number of coats is labeled in the bottom right hand corner of the pictures. For all pictures I used a base of LA Colors Base coat and Top Coat. I did not use a top coat at all for this post. Of course I will be featuring these beauties in full NOTD but for right now enjoy my prismatic skittles.
In all pictures: Thumb - Prism, Index - Liquid Crystal, Middle - Optical Illusion, Ring - Ray-diant and Pinky - Polarized.

can you believe I didn't do any special effects in Picnik for this photo?
This is an updated list that Jenna posted of everyone still participating in this challenge. If you want me to add your link to the list be sure to let me know. I don't want anyone to feel left out.

St. Patrick's Day Nails

Here are my st. Patty's day nails. I apologize for not being a good blogger & commenter this week. I've been adjusting to my new schedule and haven't had as much computer (blog) time as I would like. I hope to be back on track real soon. Please don't think I forgot about any of you.

On my nails I am wearing 2 coats of Milani Hi-Tech, 1 coat of SC Irish Green and then 1 coat of Hi-Tech over. I really like how it turned out. Even my clover accents. I submitted this to Nouveau Cheap for the St. Patty's day round up. (AHHH!!! My pic was chosen!!!! I'm so excited! Check out all the pics here.)

My ring finger on my picture hand broke today when I was trying to get my box of summer shoes down. I'm so sad. I'm debating on cutting down all my nails. I got an exciting post for my 52 week challenge tomorrow. If you follow me on twitter, you probably have a clue of what I am going to do. Until then...talk to you later.
